After announcing his “retirement” from celebrity styling this past March,Law Roachset out to rediscover the things that sparked his inner joy.
“I’ve been working diligently on creating and nurturing the habit of being happy,” the renowned Hollywood image architect — who’s styled the likes ofCéline Dion,Kerry WashingtonandZendaya— tells PEOPLE exclusively. “Taking a step back from this industry that became a bit overwhelming and too much of my personal identity was the best and most healthy thing for me to do mentally and physically.”
Then, Roach, who stillcollaborates closely with Zendaya on her wardrobe, realized he wanted to pursue projects that introduced his eye for style to the masses in an accessible way — and it’s why his new partnership with contemporary furniture and home decor brand CB2 made perfect sense.

“When I got the opportunity to partner with this amazing company that is from the city that I’m from, that made me proud and happy,” the Chicago native says of the collaboration, which consists of his ownholiday-inspired edit and ”How to Holiday” guide.
“It’s the holidays, the happiest time of the year, so to be a part of that and to spread love, joy and this obtainable opulence and luxury, it just speaks to everything that I am and what I want to do in my career.”
Roach’s interest in interiors came about in an “incredible” way.
After buying his first house in December 2019 right before COVID-19 hit, he began decorating his home in a monochromatic color palette. “Then the pandemic came,” Roach says, “and I was forced to live in this pit of gray. It was the most somber, depressing thing that I had ever felt.”
From there, he started incorporating styles that brought his space to life. “I want to live in a world with color and that feels festive. When people walk into my space, I want to be feeding their eyes and their soul at the same time.”

As he began this project, Roach found himself gravitating towards the same creative principals he applied to his work in fashion.
“I wasn’t the little-black-dress kind of stylist. I was always the stylist who was known for taking risks. I think that part of me is still there in the present,” he says, adding that he wants his homeware collection to ignite the same breathtaking reactions his red carpet looks did.

Overall, Roach wants to empower others to live life through his “more is more, and less is a bore” mindset, rule number one in his list of holiday dos and don’ts.
“Let’s live in whatever we think opulence means to us. Let’s have fun and let’s share that spirit with whoever we choose to spend our holidays with, whether that looks like one or 100,” he says.

The CB2Toast Black Bar Cartis Roach’s top pick because it makes for a “really chic Instagrammable moment” for when his guests are making cocktails.
The “modern” item also strikes a chord with Roach, who is reminded of the vintage bar carts he saw while thrifting with his grandmother when he was younger.
Another sentimental layer to Roach’s work with CB2 is that he will get to design his own store windows for two of the brand’s main locations in New York and Chicago, the latter of which is home to his family and close friends.
“When they see it, that’s when it’s emotional,” Roach tells PEOPLE of what it means to him to have his community see his displays which, he adds, embody how far he’s come and stands as a reminder to any creatives following his career that anything is possible.

As Roach revels in his new gig, he’s excited for his holiday plans to unfold.
“I’m building my traditions, but I think it’s really fun and incredible that traditions can start whenever you start them,” he tells PEOPLE. “Last year was the first time that I got to host my family at my house. I’m fortunate to have another house in Georgia that is big, so I had four really huge real Christmas trees and I probably hosted 20 people. It was incredible, I’m actually probably going to tear up just thinking about it.”
