The Fall of Reach is a major eventin Halo canyon , one of the most deadliest and decisive defeats human beings faces against the Covenant . First explore in the prequel novel of the same name by Eric Nylund before the release of the original 2001 Xbox game Halo : Combat develop , the Covenant ’s successful encroachment of Reach — home to the Spartan - II program , the crucible that fake Master Chief into the enhanced soldier he is — and its cheeseparing obliteration was finally adapt once again into the fourth major Halo TV biz , befittingly title Halo : Reach , the final title in the enfranchisement to be worked on by original Halo developer Bungie .
