Derek Jeteris enjoying raising a family with wifeHannahin Miami afteryears of living in New York City.
Although the former New York Yankees star, who’s currently CEO of the Miami Marlins, is fiercely private when it comes to his daughters, inHaute Living‘s April/May cover story, he opened up about how much his family’s life has changed since moving out of the Big Apple.
“Raising a family in Miami is definitely different than in New York,” said Jeter, who shares daughtersStory Grey, 10 weeks, andBella Raine, 19 months, with the formerSports Illustrated Swimsuitmodel.
“It’s nice because we’re now in our own home and it makes it easy to move around, play in the yard, enjoy the outdoors, etc.,” he shared, adding of himself and his wife, “We’re enjoying life and raising our family here.”
The father of two went on to sharethat there’s a big milestoneon the horizon for Bella: “My oldest daughter is heading into school somewhat soon, so we’ve begun theprocess of looking at schools,” remarked Jeter, 44.

Just one day before the photos surfaced, the former Yankees captain raved about fatherhood, tellingExtrahow life as a dad has been “awesome” so far.
“Regardless of what happens in the course of a day, when you get home and you have your daughter there, it puts a smile on your face, so I have no complaints whatsoever,” he said.

Emphasizing howparenting is all about partnership, Jeter has always been adamant about championing what Hannah, 28, brings to the table.
“Mywife deserves a lot of credit. She has been an unbelievable mother, she has a great deal of patience — not only with my daughter, but with me,” he told PEOPLE while celebrating his cover storyOcean Drive Magazinelast year.
“Then when she starts walking, she starts running, and when she starts running, you wish she wasn’t walking, running or crawling — you wish she’d stay still,” he admitted. “Every day is something new, and you’reso proud of those little moments.”
