Take Excellent Adventure , tie in Bogus Journey , shove them through timeas well as a modern lens , and you ’ve got Dean Parisot ’s Bill & Ted Face the Music , the very funny , very moving , very fitting third film in the saga . It is most victorious , with only a sprinkle of flagitious .
The first two Bill & Ted films , released in 1989 and 1991 respectively , insert Bill S. Preston , Esq . ( Alex Winter ) and Ted “ Theodore ” Logan ( Keanu Reeves),two adolescent fromSan Dimas , California who are fate to save the world with their music . It ’s a punishing burden , one the duo have lived with for decades since the last movie . And while their lot , Wyld Stallyns , did become illustrious , it was fleeting — and at the starting time of Face the Music , the mankind is much the same . The main difference of opinion now is Bill and Ted are older and haveyoung adult daughters , Thea ( Samara Weaving ) and Billie ( Brigette Lundy - Paine ) .

With the introduction of their daughters , and reintroduction of their married woman ( Princesses Elizabeth and Joanna , played by Erin Hayes and Jayma Mays ) , Bill & Ted Face the Musichas a lot proceed on . All of which is exacerbate when a woman from the future , Kristen Schaal ’s Kelly , tells Bill and Ted if they do n’t write a call to change the populace in the next hour or so , the macrocosm will end .
Bogus .
That deadline , which blossom mostly in real sentence , ups the stress well . Bill and Ted go off on one journey , while their daughters and wives each go off on their own . Thea and Billie essentially echo Excellent Adventure as they jaunt through time trying to help oneself their dada . Elizabeth and Joanna , whose account get unfortunately short - exchange a bit , go on a clip - journey journey of ego - realisation ( both were live union bother ) , and Bill and Ted themselves go in the lead in fourth dimension trying to beat the organisation . If the universe exist , they must ’ve write the song already , so why not just steal it from themselves ?

Franchise creators and writersChris Matheson and Ed Solomonhave been solve on this script for years and it establish . The movie effortlessly bounce between , mostly , Thea and Billie ’s story as well as Bill and Ted ’s account , showing how different generations can work to solve the same problem . Both stories are chock full of untamed surprises and vast laugh , many of which derive from a grampus automaton played by Barry ’s Anthony Carrigan , who more than just bargain the film , he highjack it .
“ Did he just say ‘ cause of death automaton ? ’ ” you ’re asking . Yes . Yes , I did . There ’s more perish on in the Face the Music too , plenty more , and at times all the tale threads can become a piffling perplexing . Director Dean Parisot does a hearty job keep the audience oriented while rebound between stories , plus dialogue is pelt throughout to cover some of the plot of ground holes and devices — though at least upon first viewing , there ’s a ripe fortune the flick will leave you a little bit confused . express mirth and well-chosen , but confused .
gratefully , the charm of everyone call for , including several character and actors I ’d rather not mention to keep the surprise , mostly covers all that . Winter and Reeves effortlessly slip back into their theatrical role while also giving them a brand new feel . Obviously , this is Bill and Ted , but the year have smoothed their edges a minute and made them much more sympathetic and relatable while maintaining their earmark optimism and humor . As Thea and Billie , Weaving and Lundy - Paine somehow perfectly seize the vibrant nature and undeniable chemistry of their on - silver screen fathers , while also making their characters believably wise and talented . That was always an issuance with Bill and Ted — those guy sense a little too helpless to make their luck . But , in their daughters , the hope is there .

All the returning fibre , such as William Sadler ’s end , Amy Stoch ’s Missy , and Hal Landon Jr. as Ted ’s don , are given important , delightful use , and new additions like the said Schaal , Jillian Bell , and , most of all , Carrigan , keep the motion picture feeling fresh and novel .
That ’s the balance that , in the end , makes Face the Music so charming . It ’s absolutely , without a doubt , an godless Bill & Ted movie . The laugh are Brobdingnagian and consistent . But it slowly evolves to become not just a heartwarming film , but a film for 2020 . A film about uniting everyone , past , present , and future tense , in peace , harmony , and rock and scroll .
Bill and Ted ’s story was always about portion . And while Bogus Journey could have been the end of their narrative , Face the Music easy justifies itself as the fresh , definitive conclusion . This picture , fault and all , find like the ultimate realisation of not just the franchise , but Bill and Ted ’s write up too . Face the Music is n’t run short to unite the creation , but it damn sure stress its honorable .

It’s been a rough few decades for Death, Bill, and Ted.Photo: Orion Pictures
