Apple ’s been on a tear to protect the looking of its retail experiences , trademarking the design of its storesand patent itsproprietary see - through staircases . Now its ice cube flagship store in Manhattan is formally a patented design in the U.S. , with “ Steve P. Jobs ” listed as one of the inventors .
Thepatentfor the guileless Fifth Avenue fund was filed all the way back in 2012 but was finally granted this week . Although connection in the patent address Apple ’s revolutionary glass technology , which take into account them to manufacture some of the large and strongest slabs of glass on the planet , the language itself present the claim as “ the ornamental design for a construction as show and key . ” So what Apple is patent here is really the distinctive design of the building itself . This is not the same thing as a trademark , by the way , which Apple employ for in regard to the same building in 2010 and has not yet received .
Apple actually submitted two storage designs for patent of invention consideration in 2012 , one of which was patent right aside : thecrystal - clear-cut cylinder of their Shanghai store . Why that one was grant immediately but the cube had to look all this time is a bit puzzling . Perhaps a glass cube is not as distinctive , architecturally ? Or flat shabu wall are not as technologically telling as ones that curl ? Remember though , that the Manhattan cubeunderwent a redesignin 2011 to make its glass even more seamless . Perhaps that ’s what seal the deal . Either agency , this should throttle the ability of others to construct giant Methedrine cubes of their own , a squelch blow to outside plaza nationwide .
