A man out for a stroll on a South Welsh beach stumbled upon something rather noteworthy : a fully - say , seven - foot ichthyosaur skeleton — described by the National Museum Wales as “ a potentially very , very important discovery . ”

Amateur dodo hunter Jonathan Bow has unearthed a seven foot systema skeletale of a ichthyosaur carniverous maritime reptilian on Penarth beach .
Ichthyosaurs ( Pisces lizard ) were predatory reptiles that swam the reality ’s oceans while dinosaur walked the kingdom . They snuff it out around 25 million years before the extermination event that wiped out the dinosaurs and were replaced by plesiosaurus , a foresighted neck shipboard soldier reptile .
fossilist Cindy Howells , collections managing director in the Department of Geology at National Museum Wales , described the ichthyosaur as a “ potentially very , very of import find ” give it was complete .
She has only realise it in photographs and Hope to view it for herself soon along with the other finds made by Mr Bow .
Bow ’s get the gleaning gift , it seems , since he told Wales Online that “ This is not the rarest of my finds – that was a dinosaur toe ivory which I notice five years ago . ”
For now , he ’s keep the ichthyosaur skeleton with his nursing home collecting of fossil finds .
