One of the thing that was really refreshing about Agent Carter ’s first few episodes was the fact that her manly co-worker at the S.S.R. were sexist and myopic … but they were actually somewhat competent in other ways . But no more . The serviceman of the S.S.R. made some fatal errors in the past few instalment , and it cost them .
Spoilers ahead …
In last night ’s aptly - named “ Snafu , ” the S.S.R. has found out about Peggy Carter ’s hole-and-corner investigations , and they ’ve hauled her into hands . But while they ’re trying to crack Peggy , the genuine scoundrel , Ivchenko and Dottie Underwood , are pass in secret and hatching plan to get hold of one of Howard Stark ’s deadly innovation .
In retrospect , the introduction of Dr. Ivchenko ’s magical hypno king was a huge turning dot for Agent Carter , since he seems to be able to get at heart almost anybody ’s head and make them do whatever he wants . It ’s cute and makes him a formidable scoundrel , but it also gain the S.S.R. seem a bit soggy that they permit him mesmerize both Yauch and Dooley — nobody even notice after Yauch , who ’s allow guarding Ivchenko , move off to a barroom and then stupefy himself run over .
The upside of all this is that Sousa , at least , come in off looking pretty savvy — he ’s forgather a pretty telling stockpile of grounds of Carter ’s guilt , including the guy wire who image her at the docks , the photograph from the nightclub , and the cat whom Peggy cuffed to a chair .
Still , in the close , Peggy has Dooley , Sousa and Jack dead to right , explaining to each of them how they have n’t really seen her at all . Dooley ’s only seen her as a kitten left on his doorstep , Jack ’s seen her as a secretaire , and Sousa put her on a footstall . And then she rightly points out their “ shoddy police work , ” both in going after Howard Stark based on fragile grounds , and in arrest her or else of Dottie the Russian bulwark :
Just as Peggy is starting to explain to the S.S.R. men what idiots they are , Jarvis shows up with a confession ostensibly written by Howard Stark — but in reality written by Jarvis himself , who “ panicked . ” Jarvis examine to convince the S.S.R. folk that Stark will render his signature on the last page of the confession ( and himself ) once Jarvis and Peggy are free — but he has n’t cogitate things through . Once Stark go wrong to appear , Jarvis and Peggy will only be in worse pass .
And that ’s when Peggy sees Ivchenko setting his architectural plan in motion .
But the worst is yet to fall , because Ivchenko is still active while Peggy is cooling her heel . He employ morse computer code to commit a signal to Dottie , who ’s cool down in the tooth doctor ’s office next to the fly - infested corpse of the dentist , telling her to be quick for an extraction in 90 minutes .
In retrospect , the content the S.S.R. received on that magic typewriter telegraphy was obviously destine to tempt them to that Leviathan installation , where they discover Ivchenko as a “ prisoner . ” That allowed Ivchenko to gain their confidence so they ’d bring him back to their HQ , and he could rig them into handing over the recede Stark innovation .
So Peggy has no selection but to do what she probably should have done way preferably — open up to Dooley , Jack and Sousa , telling them the whole story . What ’s nice is that as soon as she explains , Daniel Sousa and Jack Thompson both start to believe her . specially after she produces the slip vial of Captain America ’s blood :
How did she go behind their backs and do her own probe , Dooley asks . And why did n’t she trust in anyone ? , Sousa adds . She finally puddle them understand how much they ’ve overlook and underestimate her , while she was scat rings around them in secret . you may see the first glimmerings of respect finally startle to appear .
Peggy ultimately wins back enough trustfulness that Jack and Sousa go with some homo to look the building where Dottie was hide and communicate with Ivchenko in secret . And Sousa ignores Jack ’s advice to shoot first and call for questions afterwards , pass to an acrobatic escape on Dottie ’s part :
And meanwhile , Dooley is dopy enough to leave himself alone with Ivchenko , who straightaway starts putting Dooley in a trance again , using Dooley ’s regrets over ignore his married woman and small fry .
A handy flashback at the start of the episode underline how powerful Ivchenko ’s hypno power are — back in 1943 , he was capable to hypnotize a man into experience inside his last day with his mother before going to war , playing chess with her . And this memory was so bright , the man did n’t even notice his leg was being sawn off .
So even though Dooley stress to balk Ivchenko ’s control a couplet times , he still does the adult male ’s bidding — locking up Peggy and Jarvis , fetching a tight Stark invention from the lab , and place on a prototype armor singlet , made of some Stark - formulate metal . The vest is supposed to keep you fond in the middle of a frigid wasteland , but it ’s mentally ill — so Dooley has no choice but to toss himself out the window before he explode .
The sad affair is , Dooley believes he ’s gone home early to see his wife and tike , and it almost looks real enough for a consequence despite the revealing soft focal point . Dooley ’s last words are to Carter , making her promise to get the sonofabitch .
And then in the episode ’s kicker , we see the stolen Stark design in operation , thanks to a infant carriage that Dottie purchase earlier in the episode . The invention is left inside a pic theater , with a clump of people locked inside — and it basically does the same thing as a villainous machine in a sure picture show that ’s too recent to bring up , for fear of spoiler . fundamentally , it makes everybody in the theater routine on each other and attack each other — before they die either of their wounds or of some sort of contamination .
I have to admit , Leviathan seemed a piece more formidable when it was a shadowy organization made up of all men whose voiceboxes had been take out . Now it seems as though the villains , at least for this season , are down to Dottie and Ivchenko , and the rest of Leviathan is move to remain in the shadows . rent ’s hope , though , that we get some more insight into the fully grown secret . Like , what exactly happened at the “ Battle ” of Finow ? Why did Leet Brannis and the other cat have their voiceboxes taken out ? What was Leviathan plan to do with those implosive devices in the first two episode , and what ’s their connection to Roxxon ?
But even if some of those questions are left open for season two — and have ’s hope we get one — I ’m still excited to see how this cease next hebdomad . Especially now that all of Carter ’s enigma are out , and her coworkers have last realized — a little too late — that she ’s by far the competent mortal they ’ve start .
